About us
Istenhegyi Borház was founded in 2011, in Rátka in the Tokaj Wine Region. This legendary volcanic wine region in North-East Hungary has been famous for its natural sweet wine for centuries, and now it is getting noticed about the dry white wines too. Its winemaking culture and traditions are honoured by its inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage.
I grew up here, our family always had a small piece of vineyard to make wine. I can remember the harvests in the ’80s, when we kids had fun while the adults were really serious about the weather, the work they needed to finish and the quality of the grapes each year. But at the end, the harvest, this awesome family gathering on the hill was fun for the adults too.
Then I moved to the college, and started to work in the banking sector in Budapest, a totally different area, started my own family, and after 15 years I returned to the vineyard to worry about the weather, the work that needs to be done, and happily organizing the harvests and making wine.
Our winery is a family business. My father, my husband, my sister and I work together. It is also important for us to show our three children the traditional way of winemaking. The current size of our vineyard is 3 hectars, all in one piece on the Istenhegy-vineyard (translated to English it is Hill-of-God vineyard) and we have Furmint grape throughout the whole area. This size enables us to personally supervise all the work processes from the pruning until the bottling, so we can truly make our own wine. Hope you will enjoy it too!

We have the Furmint grape throughout the whole area, but our wines are quite different due to the diversity of soils and the weather conditions in different vintages
